This past Saturday night in Comitán, Chiapas, Mexico, the main event was supposed to determine the first ever Legends of Lucha Libre Champion, one fall to a finish. The combatants, Dr. Wagner Jr., Cibernetico, Tinieblas Jr. and Herodes Jr. have all held championships. Three of the four are easily considered legends and the fourth, Herodes Jr., saw the match as an opportunity to keep climbing his way toward a legacy the likes of the others. Surely becoming the first Legends of Lucha Libre Champion would help his case.
FULL promoters and Legends of Lucha Libre directors, Masked Republic, hoped for a clean and clear pinfall or submission to assure the title’s lineage was immediately off to a respectful start. Of course, when wily vets like Wagner Jr., Cibernetico and younger but quite crafty in his own right Herodes Jr. are involved, the officials need to keep an extra eye on the action.
The bout ended on Saturday night when Cibernetico seemed to have used his craftiness to get one over on Tinieblas Jr., however the man with the black & gold mask managed to get himself to the ropes. Unfortunately, the referee missed this mandatory rope break at first and awarded the bout to the former Lucha Libre AAA World Heavyweight Champion (who has held a dozen more titles as well). However, when the fans and other officials at ringside pointed out that Tinieblas Jr. had made it to the ropes, the referee took the title back from Cibernetico.
And now, it has been declared by FULL and Legends of Lucha Libre officials tat “THIS SUNDAY IN SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS, a rematch, one fall to a finish, will be held and the first Legends of Lucha Libre Champion WILL be crowned.”
Will it be Dr. Wagner Jr., Cibernetico, Tinieblas Jr. or Herodes Jr.? By this time tomorrow, we will know!
