La Sombra Vengadora passes away at 89

La Sombra Vengadora was the protagonist of the golden age of lucha libre

This Saturday, June 13, the Mexican luchador Rogelio de la Paz, better known as La Sombra Vengadora, died at the age of 89. La Sombra Vengadora belonged to the golden age of lucha libre.

Rogelio de la Paz was born on January 12, 1931, debuting as a professional luchador in 1950 at age 19, taking the character of La Sombra Vengadora in 1958, a character inspired by the 1956 film of the same name. Rogelio de la Paz considered the longest-running luchador at 51, retiring at age 80 in 2011.

Rogelio de la Paz lost the mask as La Sombra Vengadora against El Enfermero in 1960 at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City. One of the most memorable moments of his career was his participation in Los Campeones Justicieros (The Champions of the Justice) movie in 1971 with Blue Demon, Mil Mascaras, Medico Asesino & Tinieblas.
