CMLL International Grand Prix 2026: How watch, star time & card

Published August 05, 2026

The iconic Arena Mexico is gearing up to host one of the most storied and prestigious tournaments in global pro wrestling: the 2026 International Grand Prix hosted by the CMLL, set to take place on Friday, August 7.

In a historic edition that expands the lineup to 22 competitors in a direct elimination Torneo Cibernético, Team Mexico will clash with a Team International stacked with stars from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro), Ring of Honor (ROH), Major League Wrestling (MLW), and Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling (MLP).

Favorites to Take Home the Trophy

In an 11-on-11 showdown, the odds favor wrestlers who combine high standing, momentum, and complete mastery of the ring at the Catedral de la Lucha Libre

  • Místico (Mexico): The Rey de Plata y Oro enters as the undisputed flagship figure for the Mexican squad. After claiming victory in the 2023 and 2025 editions, he is chasing a historic third championship to cement his dominance in this tournament.

  • Claudio Castagnoli (International / Switzerland – AEW): The Swiss powerhouse knows exactly what it takes to silence Arena Mexico. The winner of the 2024 edition after defeating Volador Jr. in the final, Castagnoli represents relentless physical strength and global technical prowess.

  • Volador Jr. (Mexico): The Depredador del Aire holds the record for the most wins in tournament history with three trophies. His strategic experience inside the Cibernetico Match format makes him an instant contender for victory.

  • Bandido (Rest of the World / Mexico – AEW): Serving a special role as captain/reinforcement for the international contingent representing AEW, El Más Buscado possesses a deep understanding of the Mexican style alongside the technical backing to tip the scales in favor of the foreign squad.

  • PAC & Roderick Strong (Rest of the World / England & USA – AEW): Two world-class veterans whose high-impact style and physical precision pose the most serious threat to the agility of the Mexican high-flyers.

The Importance of the Grand Prix for CMLL and Global Lucha Libre

The International Grand Prix is far more than an individual trophy; it serves as a strategic cornerstone in the modern pro wrestling industry:

1. The Bastion of Honor and National Identity

Since its inception in 1994, the Grand Prix has been the stage where CMLL defends the traditional Mexican lucha libre style against diverse international disciplines (Japanese Strong Style, British catch wrestling, and North American high-flying/powerhouse styles). Winning the tournament means successfully defending the home flag on the sacred canvas of the Doctores neighborhood.

2. The Epicenter of the Wrestling Multiverse

Bilateral partnerships between CMLL and promotions like AEW, NJPW, MLW and RevPro have transformed the Grand Prix into an international summit of elite talent. This tournament proves that Arena México is a mandatory stop for the world’s top figures, acting as a catalyst for future rivalries, transatlantic title defenses, and collaborative global events.

3. A Consolidation Platform for Rising Stars

The Torneo Cibernetico format grants massive exposure to emerging talents like Xelhua for Mexico, or Leon Cage and Yutani for the international block, going toe-to-toe with established legends in front of a sold-out crowd in the Mexican capital.

CMLL International Grand Prix will be broadcast live worldwide through the legend level membership on the official CMLL channel on YouTube this Friday, August 7 at 8:30 P.M. Mexico City Time (10:30 P.M. E.T). This PPV will cost $699 pesos ($ 35 USD). This show can also be streamed on myaew.com, but it will be exclusive to the US and will cost $7.99 USD.
