It’s been known for weeks that Rey Mysterio would be returning to WWE; the only question left to answer was when. Now we know. Earlier today WWE themselves announced that Mysterio will be returning to the promotion for their special 1,000th episode of Smackdown, becoming the latest legend to appear after former tag team partner Dave Batista was announced to be appearing with Evolution a few weeks ago.
There is perhaps no better show for Mysterio to begin his next run with WWE. His most successful tenures of his WWE career occurred while he was on the blue brand, where he famously feuded with Eddie Guerrero in 2005 and won several championships, including the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2006. Even better is what the future could hold for Mysterio on Smackdown, as the roster currently boasts Andrade “Cien” Almas. The former CMLL luchador is seen by many as a successor to Mysterio and it would make all the sense in the world for WWE to put the two together sometime in the future.
Smackdown’s 1,000th episode takes place a week from Tuesday on October 16th live on the USA Network.
