Between the frequent use of lucha talent such as LA Park and a recent deal with Tijuana based promotion The Crash, Major League Wrestling loves lucha libre these days. As it turns out they love it even more than I could’ve guessed given the two talents they’ll soon be bringing in. As announced today on MLW’s social media pages, LA Park and Hijo de LA Park will be competing against Septimo Dragon and Magnus at the upcoming War Chamber event in Dallas.
This is, to say the least, a shocking development. Though Dragon did just recently work several shows at Expo Lucha 2019 in San Diego and Magnus has worked independent shows in Texas, neither has ever appeared on US TV before and neither were thought to be on anyone’s radar. Magnus’ tenure with CMLL (where he’s worked for the past nine years) also would’ve seemed like a potential roadblock given MLW’s issues with CMLL after the latter convinced both to leave MLW in favor of ROH. In any event, this will surely be the biggest match of either Dragon or Magnus’ career to date and both should be up to the challenge. The 25 year old Dragon has long been an underrated worker on the independent circuit, while Magnus, the son of lucha libre legend Tony Salazar and cousin of top CMLL star Caristico, has long been considered undervalued as an opening match guy within “the serious and the stable.” There are no guarantees, but a strong performance with the Parks (despite it likely being a losing effort) could open some doors for both.
MLW’s War Chamber will take place on September 7th in Dallas, Texas.
