Just two days ago Lucha Central reported that three more talents from Lucha Underground, Jeff Cobb, Famous B and Sonny Kiss, were all seeking legal representation to secure a release from the promotion; meanwhile a fourth talent, Willie Mack, was also rumored to be seeking legal representation following LU (via Dorian Roldan) blocking him from working Ring of Honor and the NWA. Today we can confirm that one of those four talents will soon be free. Though it hasn’t been signed by all parties yet, Lucha Central has learned that an agreement has been reached that will see Jeff Cobb released from his Lucha Underground contract.

This is a shocking development, mostly because everyone (including Cobb) believed he was already free from his Lucha Underground deal. The current Ring of Honor Television Champion and New Japan NEVER Openweight Champion, who first gained fame in LU as the monster Matanza Cueto, had seemingly wrapped up his LU tenure at Ultima Lucha IV when he was killed off onscreen by Black Lotus. Cobb later indicated he had secured his release from Lucha Underground and signed a deal with ROH. Despite this, sources had told Lucha Central that certain Lucha Underground officials had attempted to block Cobb from working Ring of Honor while insisting he was still signed by LU. Yesterday luchablog speculated that Cobb, along with Mack, were targeted due to working with The Crash promotion in Mexico, in an attempt to get them to work with AAA instead. Whatever the case, this agreement will make sure Cobb is in the free and clear for good.

Sources tell Lucha Central that once Cobb’s release is official, the releases for Famous B and Sonny Kiss will be asked for as well, though there is no change to their situation at this moment. This is a developing story, and Lucha Central will keep you updated on any information as it becomes available.
