Los Angeles’ permiere annual event to celebrate lucha libre and Chicano culture, La Bulla, returns to Plaza De La Raza on Saturday, June 13th, 2018.

A most unique event that mixes live lucha libre matches with an art exhibit, live bands and DJ sets, a fashion show, art and culture vendors and more, this years event will pay honor to one of the most legendary luchadores of all time, WWE Hall of Famer, Mil Mascaras.

Now in it’s fourth year, La Bulla is the brainchild of Antonio Pelayo whose Antonio Pelayo Productions first became known in Los Angeles for it’s annual El Velorio event, the city’s largest Dia De Los Muertos celebration.  Pelayo, one of the few remaining “ink and paint” artists at Walt Disney Animation, later added the lucha-centric La Bulla and the tattoo celebrating Tatuaje events to his portfolio.

Lucha libre entertainment company Masked Republic has been part of La Bulla since it’s inception, having been brought in by original event partner, former WWE Smackdown writer and author of the book Mondo Lucha A-Go-Go Dan Madigan, to add authentic lucha matches to the event.  This will be the fourth year Masked Republic teams with the Santino Bros Wrestling Academy to curate and produce the live matches.

This year’s event will not only feature dozens of top California artists each customizing their own wooden Mil Mascaras mask, but a special photography exhibit featuring some of SoCal’s top lucha photographers including Lucha Central’s own Josh Garcia of Rudos Photography and David Espinoza.  (If you have not looked at either of their photo galleries here on the site, you are missing out).  Artist Jesse Hernandez, known as Urban Aztec, will be one of the artists featured at the event.  You can read an interview with him from Rudo Can’t Fail right here.
