Last night the lucha libre world, AAA, Impact, and All Elite Wrestling held their collective breath as Rey Fenix went down with what looked to be a neck injury during an AAW tag match where he and Pentagon took on AR Fox and Myron Reed. In the end we can all breathe a bit easier. After initial reports suggested Fenix suffered a stinger, PWInsider is now reporting that Fenix instead suffered with a muscle contusion of the neck.  The injury will only force him out of action for a few weeks while he rests, insuring both AAA’s big Rey de Reyes match between the Lucha Brothers and Rey Escorpion/Texano Jr. and AEW’s Double or Nothing co-headliner of the Lucha Brothers vs. The Young Bucks will take place.

This is the second injury Fenix has suffered in the last few months, after he injured his groin in CMLL’s Leyenda de Plata final against Cavernario back in late November. While this injury won’t have long term effects, it will likely impact a few of Fenix’s bookings in the short term. As of now Fenix is scheduled to team with Pentagon against LAX tonight at House of Glory, before flying to Tepic tomorrow to defend the AAA Mega Championship against Flamita and Laredo Kid in a triple threat match. While nothing has been announced yet, both matches are unlikely to occur.

We at Lucha Central wish Fenix a speedy recovery and hope to see him flying around the ring again soon!
