Tonight’s CMLL Tuesday show actually looked pretty damn solid on paper. In the end it turned out to be pretty damn solid when it all played out. I actually think it could’ve been better with a few more breaks, but overall this was a decent two hours with a couple fun matches. You don’t get that every Tuesday now do you? If you missed the action, here’s what occurred.
Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico defeated Acero & Aéreo two falls to one after Olímpico submitted Acero and Mercurio pinned Aéreo with a Package Piledriver. This match featured Acero and Aéreo trying one complicated sequence with Olímpico and Olímpico botching both moves. How is he still employed?! Match was boring otherwise.
Cancerbero, Hijo del Signo, Raziel defeated Magnus, Retro, Robin two falls to one after Raziel submitted Robin and Cancerbero submitted Retro. Magnus was expected to not make this match; I really wish he hadn’t after what he had to go through! This was a lifeless match with the only spark being Robin, who decided to do every cool thing he knew to make this match work. It didn’t help any, but the effort is appreciated. Too bad everyone else sucked or was Magnus.
Super Astro Jr. defeated Halcón Suriano Jr. in a Lightning Match at the 8:33 mark after submitting Suriano with an armbar variation. This match looked exciting on paper and turned out to be even crazier than expected! It wasn’t perfect; it was more moves than story and Super Astro Jr. spiked himself on his head at one point trying a cool moonsault variation. But this was still tremendous fun, with both guys cutting a great pace, breaking out a lot of dives and delivering some terrific sequences, like an awesome moment in the second half when Suriano hotshotted Astro into the ropes, only to then eat an excellent Astro suicide dive moments later (caught perfectly by CMLL’s camera crew). Well worth giving a look to see two young luchadores having a good time.
Pólvora, Vangellys, Virus defeated Black Panther, Blue Panther Jr., Fuego two falls to one after Virus pinned Black Panther with a Scorpion pin and Vangellys pinned Fuego with a Deadlift Northern Lights Suplex. A well worked, if not particularly exciting, match. These guys were working hard, cut a nice pace and seemed to get better as things went along. The only negative was the match never felt like it got the extra kicked needed to reach the next level, though that probably wasn’t happening given some of the participants. Even still, this was better than what we usually get from matches featuring Vangellys.
Felino, Hechicero, Templario defeated Audaz, Flyer, Rey Cometa two falls to one after Felino pinned Cometa with a Sitout Outsider’s Edge and Hechicero pinned Flyer with a Modified One Winged Angel to end all Modified One Winged Angels. How Flyer is still alive after is beyond me. This was very good, though not much better than the Lightning Match earlier, which will surely disappoint some. There were a few sloppy moments here and there early on, but the match picked up strongly towards the end, especially when Audaz got going. He was tremendous in this match, especially in the third fall when he went into his bag of tricks for a Dragonrana and an exquisite Brillo Dorada. Flyer also had a good night and was surprisingly one of the smoothest guys in this match. Templario and Hechicero were also good.
Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón defeated Mistico, Soberano Jr., Valiente two falls to one after Sansón pinned Mistico with an Avalanche Blue Thunder Bomb off the top rope. Mistico was stretchered out afterwards; my guess he was selling but they got him out quickly so it’s unclear. Hopefully it is just selling. This was a good main event otherwise. The two teams didn’t go all out but the Dinamitas can have great matches in a half daze at this point, Soberano and Valiente were really good and Mistico and Sansón showed great chemistry, especially in an excellent exchange they had in the corner. A better than usual trios main event for this show.
