Tonight’s CMLL Tuesday show in Arena Mexico was very much a CMLL Tuesday show in Arena Mexico; well other than the fact that it featured Metálico making his debut as a referee and that the show took place a day before Ludark Shaitan’s birthday!. In other words it was a show that was generally easy to watch, featured one match that was better than average, a few good performers and nothing else that I’ll remember in the days to come. Good stuff right? If you missed the show doing other stuff, here’s what happened.
El Cholo & Yago defeated Arkalis & Bengala two falls to one after Cholo pinned Arkalis with a Piledriver. The match was secondary to Metálico having his first match as a CMLL referee. He was better than almost every other CMLL referee (excluding Edgar) so he’s off to a good start! Everything else in this match was dull, though I did enjoy Cholo’s Piledriver.
Magia Blanca, Oro Jr., Retro defeated Akuma, Espanto Jr., Nitro two falls to one after Retro pinned Nitro with a German Suplex. All the people Nitro could lose clean to and he puts over Retro; what a world! I didn’t actually hate this match. Retro had been off for awhile prior to this match and unfortunately he’s the same old clumsy, miscast performer as before. Fortunately for him Blanca and Oro Jr. had really good nights (even with the restrictions), Akuma was good and Espanto Jr. and Nitro weren’t embarrassing. I’m not sure what more you could ask from this match.
Amapola, La Comandante, Metálica defeated Avispa Dorada, La Jarochita, Maligna two falls to one after Amapola pinned Jarochita with Angel Wings and Metálica pinned Maligna with a Rush Driver. A decent luchadoras match. Avispa Dorada continues to be awesome and it amazes me CMLL doesn’t give her more to do. She sadly didn’t get to do a dive in this match, which did little to change her being the best performer by a mile. Everyone else was solid to La Comandante. Maligna tried a few cool rope tricks and at worst looked to be on Sanely’s level with them.
Vangellys defeated Esfinge in a Lightning Match at the 7:50 mark after pinning the technico with a Northern Lights Suplex. I’ll give these guys credit; this match could’ve been embarrassing and aside from a botched Code Breaker spot it wasn’t. That said, no matter how hard these two tried they couldn’t escape the fact that they’re Esfinge and Vangellys, two incredibly boring workers. As such, they had an incredibly boring match that went at least two minutes too long, with no memorable moments to speak of outside of Metálico refereeing.
Black Panther, Blue Panther, Blue Panther Jr. defeated Ephesto, Luciferno, Mephisto two falls to one after Black Panther and Blue Panther Jr. pinned Ephesto and Luciferno with roll ups. An entertaining match, easily the best trios match Ephesto, Luciferno and Mephisto have been in in quite some time. It took a bit for it to get going but the final stretch of the match was strong, with the Panthers delivering big time. I don’t know if it was a great match, but it was a lot of fun, the type of match Blue Panther puts together every once in awhile that just stands out against the rest of the pack.
Mistico, Titán, Volador Jr. defeated Felino, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero two falls to one after Mistico pinned Felino with La Casita and Titán submitted Rey Bucanero. A quick, painless and uneventful main event. It was pretty much a situation that saw all six guys doing enough to get by but not putting in the effort to create something memorable. It’ll be a match forgotten quicker than the Lightning Match, and I’ve already forgotten anything that happened in that match besides the result.
