Good news sports fans; tonight’s CMLL Tuesday show featured a legitimately very good match that bested everything CMLL featured on yesterday’s Puebla show. The band news; everything else was largely quite forgettable. You take what you can with CMLL I suppose. If you missed the show, here’s what happened.
Mercurio & Pequeño Olímpico defeated Angelito & Fantasy two falls to one.
Magia Blanca, Pegasso, Star Jr. defeated Metálico, Nitro, Sangre Azteca two falls to one after Star Jr. pinned Nitro with a headscissors roll up. He seems to always beat Nitro with that. Forgettable match. I believe this was Magia Blanca’s first match to be streamed since he’s returned from injury and unfortunately he wasn’t allowed to do a whole lot. What else is new?
Drone, Flyer, Fuego defeated Kawato San, Pólvora, Universo 2000 Jr. two falls to one after Flyer pinned Pólvora with a Small Package. A little bit above average though not quite good. Flyer had a clean night and got one of the match’s two dives in addition to the pin, while his teammates Fuego and Drone both had solid nights. I was impressed with Universo 2000 Jr.; he didn’t do a lot but he still came off very well to me. Kawato and Pólvora were fine, but didn’t were well behind the other guys.
Rey Cometa defeated Templario in a Lightning Match at the 7:40 mark. The finish came after Cometa reversed an Avalanche Gutwrench Powerbomb into a Super Rana and then pinned Templario with a 450 Splash. Tremendous Lightning Match! They told a great story with Templario dominating Cometa, while the latter only got a few glimpses of offense until he caught Templario with the reversal and was able to squeak out the win. Templario looked like a superstar, breaking out several new moves and making an unbelievable catch on a Cometa hurricanrana off the apron (which he turned into a swing into the barricade). Cometa wasn’t as flashy as usual but his selling was tremendous and he managed to fit in a great moonsault over the turnbuckle. Definitely worth taking some time to see.
Rey Bucanero, Sansón, Shocker defeated Audaz, Blue Panther, Kráneo two falls to one after Bucanero pinned Kráneo with a body slam. That’s right; a body slam. Who the hell booked this shit?! The finish was bad and fortunately for it the rest of the match was worse; this match went on forever with not a thing of importance happening. Even the normally reliable Audaz seemed to have nothing to do. The exact opposite of the Lightning Match.
Euforia, Gran Guerrero, Último Guerrero defeated Carístico, Rush, Titán two falls to none after the UG pinned Carístico following a mask pull. Isn’t that how last week ended? This match would’ve been good with a third fall, but ended too quickly to reach its full potential. There were still some good spots though, with Euforia and Gran Guerrero doing well as a team and Rush, who I feel like is hardly around these days, doing very well in a supporting role. Carístico challenged the UG to a match next week for Kid’s Day so we have that to look forward to.
