CMLL’s Puebla show delivered a decent main event tonight! It was the only decent thing they did in a show otherwise filled with two challenges and way too much Tyson La Bestia. How come all the terrible luchadores in CMLL are named Bestia? I may have to look into that. In the meantime, if you missed this show because of certain shakeups, here’s what happened.

El Malayo, Toro Bill Jr., Tyson La Bestia defeated Asturiano, Oro Jr., Rey Samuray two falls to one after Tyson pinned Oro Jr. after a powerbomb. Dismal match. Oro Jr. and Rey Samuray tried hard and had moments, and then ran into Tyson La Bestia who seemed incapable of doing anything with them.

La Comandante, Metálica, Seductora defeated Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Sugehit two falls to one after Metálica pinned Marcela with a Rush Driver. Metálica challenged Marcela after the match and it appeared Marcela accepted, so that should lead to an interesting title match of sorts down the line. Match was mediocre otherwise.

El Perverso, Policeman, Virus defeated King Jaguar, Magnus, Stigma two falls to one after Policeman defeated Jaguar after a low blow. This is a night full of challenges, as Jaguar challenged Policeman to a hair match afterwards. Policeman accepted so we have that to look forward to. Joy! If it’s anything like this match, which wasted Magnus and Virus, then it’ll be an utter waste of time.

Carístico, Mistico, Soberano Jr. defeated Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón two falls to one after Mistico submitted Sansón with La Mistica. A by the numbers match if I’ve ever seen one, lacking the effort from the bouts the Dinamitas had last week. To their credit it wasn’t their fault; all three put forth decent efforts while Soberano was pretty good. In the end they (and Mistico) just weren’t given enough to do, while Carístico went through the motions for the first time in awhile. Must’ve been jet lagged from those ROH appearances!

Último Guerrero defeated Valiente two falls to one to retain the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship. The finish came after the UG pinned Valiente following the Guerrero Special. Good match! It was very UG centric and checked off all the boxes, but the Arena Puebla crowd was super into the action and both UG and Valiente put in respectable efforts. Not a Match of the Year contender but a solid main event on a show that doesn’t have many of those. See next week’s hair match if you don’t believe me!
