There were times tonight where I thought CMLL Puebla was kind of enjoyable. Then the main event happened and I remembered why I don’t review this show anymore. If you were out doing something more interesting with your time, here’s what you missed.
Espíritu Maligno & Mini Joker defeated Astro & Meyer two falls to one after the rudos submitted the technicos at the same time. I swear this happens every week! Not a terrible opener, though you wish someone like Astro was given more to do. Even in limited matches like this he shows so much promise and was easily the best guy in the match. Everyone else was serviceable or, at the very least, didn’t flat out suck.
Millenium & Robin defeated Espanto Jr. & Fuerza Chicana two falls to one after Robin pinned Espanto with a Tiger Bomb and Millenium pinned Chicana following a splash. Boring match, despite Robin and Millenium’s best efforts. They were trying, the restrictions and the two headed duo of suck known as Espanto and Chicana sadly did nothing to help them.
Esfinge, Kráneo, Stigma defeated El Malayo, Hechicero, Templario two falls to one after Stigma pinned Malayo following a Backpack Stunner and Esfinge pinned Templario following a Canadian Destroyer. Considering the technico team, this was a lot better than I imagined going in. Huge credit to Hechicero; he was on his game and had a lot of really cool sequences, especially with a better than usual Esfinge. Not an overtly exciting match at the end of the day, but was well worked overall.
Cuatrero, Forastero, Sansón defeated Flyer, Stuka Jr., Valiente two falls to one after Cuatrero reversed a Valiente Driver into a reverse Bearhug submission. Good match! The worst part about it was Valiente reverting back to the speedo after a year of pants. For shame. Everything else was solid and the match ended strongly with some decent dives from the technicos, including a between the legs tope suicida by Stuka and an Asai Moonsault by Flyer. The Dinamitas were impressive as always.
Carístico, Diamante Azul, Último Guerrero defeated Bestia del Ring, Mistico, Rush two falls to one after Rush fouled Carístico for the DQ. They set up Rush vs. Carístico for next week in a one sided post match brawl that was far more entertaining than the main event. Just a lot of nothing from there, with the most notable moment being Bestia del Ring forgetting to give the UG his arm while in Pulpo Guerrero. Hysterical. Almost as hysterical as CMLL going from Carístico-Mistico to Carístico-Rush mid match.
