It’s been a great Wednesday for wrestling…which meant it was only fitting that CMLL come along and ruin it all with a boring press conference to announce a one match show. CMLL officially announced Homenaje a Dos Leyendas for March 20th today in an hour and a half long presser that was most notable for how endless it seemed than for any of the news. The two positives were the announcement of the legendary Sangre Chicana being honored as one of the two legends at H2L (alongside CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth, who is always honored) and officially making the match we’ve all been expecting to headline the show. Indeed, Cavernario and Felino will square off in the main event of Homenaje a Dos Leyendas, with both men putting their hair on the line.
The H2L main event will be the culmination of a feud that seemed impossible a little over a month ago, when Felino and Cavernario seemed to be good pals while teaming together as members of La Peste Negra. But the relationship between the two was shattered at the Super Viernes tribute show for Mr. Niebla, and the two have feuded across Monday, Tuesday and Friday since then, with fellow La Peste Negra member (and Felino’s brother) Negro Casas even getting involved at times. It was no surprise when the match was announced at the presser today and the only question now is whether the legendary Felino, now 55 years old, will be able to hang with a luchador many consider to be one of the best in the world. Never the less the match will be hotly anticipated given the history between the two and the Arena Mexico crowd should be white hot for the match.
The same cannot be said for the rest of the card, which aside from the ceremony for Chicana looks to be a snoozer. In a match that seems to have occurred at least seven different times in the last few years, Carístico, Valiente and Volador Jr. will take Euforia, Gran Guerrero and Último Guerrero for the CMLL World Trios Championships in the semi-main event, while ROH star Flip Gordon will make his return to CMLL to team with Ángel de Oro and Niebla Roja against the hopefully not sleepwalking Dinamitas (Cuatrero, Forastero and Sansón). In the undercard Dalys will defend her recently won CMLL-Japan Women’s Championship against Princesa Sugehit, Diamante Azul, Stuka Jr. and Titán will battle Mephisto, Negro Casas and Terrible and the show will with the Microstars, as Microman teams with Atomo and Gallito to take on long time rival Chamuel, Guapito and Zacarias. In addition to this show, CMLL also announced there will be Homenaje a Dos Leyendas events in Arena Puebla on March 23rd and at Arena Guadalajara on March 24th. La Fiera will be honored in Puebla while Gran Cochisse will be honored in Guadalajara; no cards were announced for the shows.
CMLL’s Homenaje a Dos Leyendas will take place on March 20th from Arena Mexico; no details about streaming have been released as of now.
