One of the biggest lucha libre stars of all time is on the verge of a comeback! Earlier tonight on his new MLW radio show with Court Bauer and MSL, Konnan announced he will be returning to the ring for Bauer’s MLW (Major League Wrestling) promotion, competing in their Battle Riot match next month. Konnan is the 14th participant announced for the match, following the likes of Pentagon Jr., John Hennigan (aka Johnny Mundo), ACH, Kevin Sullivan, Davey Boy Smith Jr., Teddy Hart, Rich Swann, Jake Hager, Barrington Hughes, Jimmy Yuta, PCO, Lance Anoa’i and Swoggle.
Konnan’s participation in this match is a far bigger deal than most realize, as the match will represent his first match since September 15th, 2013, where he competed in a trios match for California lucha promotion Pro Wrestling Revolution. He’s battled health issues since relating to his hip, which he had surgery on earlier this year in the hopes it could lead to him returning to the ring for one last hurrah. It appears to have worked as Konnan both looked and moved better when he was revealed as the mastermind behind MAD earlier this month at AAA’s Verano de Escandalo.
MLW’s Battle Riot match/event will take place on July 19th from the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York. MLW is televised every Friday night on beIN Sports and episodes can be found On Demand over at MLW’s YouTube channel.
