The main event of Triplemania XXVII has been announced…and it’s exactly what we thought it would be. The legendary Blue Demon Jr. will take on the equally legendary Dr. Wagner Jr. in a mask vs. hair match at AAA’s big event, as announced just moments ago at an early afternoon press conference.

Those who have been following AAA the last several months will have seen this coming, as Wagner and Demon have been feuding ever since Wagner’s feud with Jeff Jarrett concluded at Heroes Inmortales in October. Though the feud was initially received poorly,  a well received street fight between the two in Tepic on February 10th solidified the match as AAA’s top feud, and the stakes, stage and presence of two beloved legends should only help to make this a memorable Triplemania main event. It’s been speculated that Demon is filling in the role LA Park was supposed to play after Wagner challenged Park to an Apuesta match at Triplemania XXVI, and some thought it was possible that Park would show up today to confirm the match. Alas it was not to be.

Though no other matches were announced for Triplemania XXVII, AAA owner Dorian Roldan confirmed there will be at least six other matches on the show (including the return of Copa Triplemania), as well as a Llave a la Gloria match on the pre-show. Roldan also stated the other matches on Triplemania will look to include wrestlers from promotions AAA is working with, which means it’s likely talent from All Elite Wrestling, Impact and Lucha Underground (if it’s still alive) will be featured. Speaking of All Elite Wrestling, the second biggest news from this presser was a surprise announcement from Cody Rhodes. Via video, the AEW EVP announced he will be appearing at AAA’s Rey de Reyes event on March 16th in Puebla, making him the first AEW wrestler to appear on a AAA show. It is likely Cody will not be wrestling on the show as he’s still recovering from knee surgery, but an angle/promo isn’t out of the question.

AAA’s Triplemania XXVII will take place on August 3rd in Mexico City; tickets are already available. In the meantime you can catch AAA on Twitch this Sunday in Monterrey at around 8 p.m. EST, and again on March 16th for Rey de Reyes. Lucha Central will be providing coverage for both events.
