At yesterday’s 47th Anniversary Show for New Japan, CMLL luchador challenged New Japan’s Taiji Ishimori to a singles match for Ishimori’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming G1 Supercard show at Madison Square Garden. It turns out Ishimori will have more to contend with than just Lee. After requesting he be added earlier today, Ring of Honor has announced that Bandido will be added to the bout, making it a triple threat match for the title.
This announcement will surely make an already exciting match that much more enticing. Ishimori is coming off a great match just yesterday with the soon to be retiring Jushin Thunder Liger and is no stranger to lucha libre, having wrestled for AAA in the past (where he’s a former AAA Tag Team Champion). Lucha fans will meanwhile be over the moon to see Lee and Bandido interact, two of the best luchadores in the world colliding on a major stage for the first time. Perhaps most interesting however is that this match will be a case where CMLL (Lee), New Japan (Ishimori) and Ring of Honor (Bandido) are all represented, the first time that has happened in a triple threat setting.
NJPW/ROH’s G1 Supercard of Honor show will take place on April 6th live from Madison Square Garden and will be streamed on Honor Club, FITE and presumably New Japan World.
