This is a bad news, good news sort of story sports fans. The bad news is that top CMLL star Barbaro Cavernario is now out of Pro Wrestling Guerilla’s Battle of Los Angeles. The good news is he’s been replaced by another luchador; Aramis. The sometimes AAA luchador will take Cavernario’s place in the tournament and will take on Rey Fenix on Night Two, Friday September 20th.

There is no word on why Cavernario pulled out of the show; speculation will almost certainly center around CMLL pulling him, either due to the high number of AAA associated luchadores or them needing him for that Friday’s show (which may also be CMLL’s biggest event of the year, the 86th Aniversario). As of this writing, fellow CMLL luchador Dragon Lee is still booked for BOLA, though he will obviously be one to watch. Whatever the case, Cavernario’s departure has opened the door for the biggest weekend of Aramis’ life. The ten year veteran (trained by Black Terry and long time rival Eterno) has been one of the top stars for the Naucalpan based International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) for the last several years, where he built up a reputation as one of the most exciting, best kept secrets in lucha libre (he is currently one half of the IWRG Intercontinental Tag Team Champions with another underrated luchador named Imposible). The secret has started to come out as Aramis has worked more and more with AAA over the past few years. His most recent AAA match was at Triplemania XXVII, where he and fellow up and comers Arez and Toxin took on Arkangel Divino, Astrolux and Dragon Bane in a critically acclaimed opener. It’s expected Aramis will have a higher profile role with AAA going forward, and an appearance at PWG will surely get him attention from other American promotions, including AAA’s partner All Elite Wrestling.

Aramis’ presence and match with Rey Fenix is only part of a BOLA that is heavily lucha influenced. Night One will see Dragon Lee will take on Rey Horus, Black Taurus (Taurus in AAA) face AEW’s Darby Allin in yet another AAA vs. AEW encounter for Taurus and The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix) matched up MexaBlood (Bandido and Flamita) in non tournament action; Night Two will feature Aramis vs. Fenix, Penta vs. GCW star Tony Deppen and Bandido vs. Laredo Kid in a battle of the two most exciting luchadores in the world. More than ever, the chances are great that a luchador may finally walk away the winner of PWG’s prestigious tournament.

PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles will take place Thursday September 19th, Friday September 20th and Sunday September 22nd.
