We’re going to provide you with regular updates on the lucha scene in Europe. We’ll tell you where the hottest shows are, so that if you’re based in Europe, or just visiting, you know where to go and get your lucha fix. We’ll also bring you the hottest stars based in Europe, as well as notifications of visiting lucha stars from Mexico and the United States! In this article we’ll highlight a few of the European promotions and stars worthy of checking out.
In London we have Lucha Britannia, which is now in its eleventh year. Based at the Resistance Gallery, in East London, which is also home to the London School of Lucha Libre and the London Lucha League (Triple L). An exciting mix of lucha, classic British wrestling, comedy and burlesque, Lucha Britannia’s Lucha Libre Wrestling & Cabaret Siniestro show runs on the third Friday of the month. Shows frequently sell out, so it’s a good idea to book tickets as soon as the events are announced.
In Barcelona, you’ll find Revolution Championship Wrestling (RCW). RCW run an immensely popular annual Ladies Tournament, drawing in the best wrestlers from Europe, Japan and the United States such as Santana Garrett, Thunder Rosa, Sammii Jayne and the team of Oedo Tai.
Also from Spain, there’s White Wolf Wrestling (La Triple W) from Madrid. Noteworthy luchadors from this promotion include A-Kid and Adam Chase, both currently tearing up the European scene having appeared on cards for Progress Wrestling and Chikara’s King of Trios tournament.
Germany’s Wrestling Kult is a newer promotion. However it has quickly established themselves as a force in European wrestling with shows mixing established stars such as Super Crazy, El Ligero and Shanna and breakout stars such as Senza Volto and “Killer” Kelly.
From the Netherlands, there’s Pro Wrestling Holland (PWH) headed by European legend Tengkwa – a contemporary of Tommy End (WWE’s Aleister Black). With shows in and around the greater Amsterdam area, it’s an easy promotion to check out if you’re in Western Europe due to excellent transport links.
On to Denmark to where BodySlam Pro Wrestling reside. Fronted by champion Michael Fynne, and with a host of characters such as the ghostly Emeritus, BodySlam (as well as La Triple W) recently sent a team to the UK to participate in Chikara’s annual King of Trios tournament. BodySlam have also featured in the Danish media in print and on screen.
Centro de Treinos de Wrestling (CTW) are based in Lisbon, Portugal. As well as running monthly shows, CTW run training seminars which attract students from across Europe. These seminars have been headlined by CTW’s own Red Eagle, as well international stars such as current WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne, former WWE superstar Tajiri and Chikara star Ophidean.
We can’t forget some of the stars that are currently lighting up the European scene, and we urge you to check out their profiles on Lucha Central to find out where they’ll be appearing. Flying in from Scotland there’s Lucha DS. In London we have La Diablesa Rosa and Nina Samuels. The Midlands sees regular appearances from White Tiger. Lana Austin is a well-established star from the north of England. And finally from Belfast, Young Lion who has recently returned from a tour of Mexico.
